Class Levels

GSP Dance Conventions and Street Groove Hip Hop Conventions offer 4 different levels each weekend:

JUNIOR:
Junior dancers are, on average, 8- 12 years of age. However, if you have a younger dancer who wishes to attend, please call us! Some exceptions will be made if the dancer is capable.

The Junior GSP dancer should have at least one or two years of training, and be able to perform the following moves fairly proficiently:
1) Single pirouette/ Chaines turns
2) Kicks
3) Jete`s

The Junior Street Groove dancer should have at least one or two years of dance training, and be able to pick up choreography at a slow/medium pace.

JUNIOR ROOM OBSERVERS may be restricted to watching the last 15 minutes of each class (depending on class sizes). We have found that the young students are able to concentrate more easily if there is less distraction in the room. This way your child will benefit more from the convention.

INTERMEDIATE:
Intermediate dancers are, on average, between 11-15 years of age.

The Intermediate GSP dancer should have at least 3 years of dance training. The dancer should be able to perform the following moves fairly proficiently:
1) Double Turns
2) Jete`s and Russians
3) Pique Turns

The Intermediate Street Groove dancer should have at least 2 or 3 years of dance training, and be able to pick up choreography at a medium/fast pace. Most classes will learn from 4-6 eight counts of choreography.

ADVANCED:
Advanced dancers are, on average, 14 years of age and up.

The Advanced GSP dancer should have at least 5 years of dance training. The dancer should be able to perform the following moves fairly proficiently:
1) Triple Turns
2) Double Piques
3) Switch Splits
4) Axels

The Advanced Street Groove dancer should have at least 5 years of dance training, and be able to pick up difficult choreography at a fast pace. Most classes will learn from 4-10 eight counts of choreography.

TEACHER:
The teacher level is for assistant teachers as well as teachers and studio owners. Teachers are allowed access to all 3 ballrooms throughout the weekend. There will be additional “Teachers Only” classes offered on each day of the convention. Plus, all registered teachers will have access to the Teachers Lounge with refreshments and coffee. Please note: Registered teachers and assistant teachers are not eligible to receive any GSP or Street Groove scholarships, however they may be considered for the Harbour Dance Centre Scholarship.
Teachers are also eligible to attend the audition class (including auditioning for The Source Dance Company www.sourcedanceco.com)

OBSERVERS:
Observers must be the parent, guardian or studio owner of a registered participant. No outside observers will be permitted into any rooms. Studio owners are not permitted to watch unless they are attending with registered participants.
Note taking and video taping is not allowed by any observers and will be strictly enforced. Please respect the artistry of our choreographers and abide by these rules!

JUNIOR ROOM OBSERVERS may be restricted to watching the last 15 minutes of each class. We have found that the young students are able to concentrate more easily if there is less distraction in the room. This way your child will benefit more from the convention.

GSP Faculty and Staff reserve the right to remove disruptive observers at anytime.
